To those who are experiencing slow internet speed while browsing on their mobile phones, we will provide a quick tip that may help you connect to faster wireless cellular internet. This may be helpful for those who are seeing a 'G' or 'E' status icon beside their phone's signal bar while mobile data is turned on. The 'G' icon stands for GPRS/2G, which indicates the signal strength you are getting while browsing on your phone, and 'E' means EDGE, which is a slight enhancement in speed. Both network types can only handle limited speeds, providing only kbps, unlike 3G, H, H+, HSDPA, HSPA and LTE networks, which can achieve faster and higher Mbps speeds.

Switch 2G/EDGE network to 3G , HSDPA, 4G LTE
Available 4G, 3G and 2G mobile network

If you're seeing G and E icon on your smartphone that means your connected to slower network, your area has only 2G network or your phone settings is set to connect only 2G cellular network.

How to Speed Up your mobile by Connecting to Faster 3G / 4G / LTE network

For Android phones:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Go to More / More Settings / Tethering and networks (this depends on phone model and OS version).
  3. Go to Mobile networks then select Network Mode.
  4. On Preferred network / Network Mode you are given an option to select WCDMA / 3G only, LTE/WCDMA/GSM auto, 2G only, LTE preferred.
  5. Select your preferred type of network to connect.

WCDMA/3G only - if you want to lock or force your mobile connectivity to this network only. Other network type will be ignored and if your area has weak to no 3G network you will experience unstable to no internet connectivity.

LTE/WCDMA/GSM auto - if you want to connect to most stable wireless network location on your area. This can be LTE, 3G or 2G and may normally auto switches to other type if current network is unstable.

2G only - if you want to connect on 2G/EDGE network only.

LTE preferred or 4G/LTE - if you want to connect LTE network on your location. Be sure to know the LTE coverage of your network provided before selecting this option. Some telcos and countries does not have nationwide or metro-wide 4G/LTE coverage.

Here's a trick for LTE capable Android phones:

  1. Dial *#*#4636#*#* Or *##4636##*
  2. Click Phone Information.
  3. Set it to LTE only.
  4. Click Update.
